The Eraser tool in Photoshop CC is similar to the Brush tool in Illustrator. However you can make changes to the eraser color, size, and hardness. You can erase parts of images or only the background. You can also create your own custom erasers.

Using a darker color on a lighter background creates a large area of black. Darker colors on dark backgrounds — large areas of black. You can use a lighter color on a dark background. Orange on orange creates different shades of orange. You can create a custom shape by opening the Eraser shape palette.
