It looks like:

What I am trying to do is, if a user clicks on a link, it’s image should fade in, then the original image fade out, and then the new image in the background should fade in, so I put:
$(‘.gallery-container’).find(‘img’).css({‘opacity’:’0.5′});

after this line
$(this).parent().find(‘a.active’).removeClass(‘active’);

So the new image should fade in, on top of the old one.
What I have instead, when the gallery is just the single img, is the new image fading into the background, so the effect it’s giving isn’t what I want, because I want the old image to fade out.
Ideally I want the new image to fade in, and then the old image fade out. I’ve tried variations on this theme, but to no avail.

The share of births to unmarried women has more than doubled over the last 40 years.

Other countries have experienced similar increases in the unmarried birth rate.

In 1985, for example, the U.S. birth rate was 65.8 births per 1,000 women aged 15 to 44. In 2013, the rate was 63.1, an increase of 0.7 percent.

The overall birth rate has continued to decline, although the recent drop has been driven by an increase in the share of births to unmarried women. In 2013, nearly 40 percent of all births were to unmarried women.

Unmarried Births Are Unplanned

The share of births to unmarried women is a marker of women who are struggling with the transition to motherhood, either because they are not in a committed relationship, or because they are in a relationship but are unprepared to raise a child.

A majority of unmarried births occur outside of a committed relationship, and most of those births occur without the desire to become pregnant. This is why the share of births to unmarried women is a key marker of the stability of the U.S. birth rate.

One of the reasons the U.S. birth rate has increased recently is that many women in committed relationships are having children when they are unprepared to raise a child, or they are not yet ready to settle into a long-term relationship.

This makes it less likely that a woman will have the means or skills to remain pregnant over the long term.

So what are the consequences of having children when you are unprepared to raise a child? Research shows that a child who is not raised by his or her own biological parents is more likely to struggle with poor health and behavior, low academic achievement and school completion, drug use

This study aims to investigate the recent trends in lower leg amputations among Korean adults from 2001 to 2007, by gender. The data were obtained from the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, and comprised health insurance claims data of lower leg amputation diagnoses during the period from 2001 to 2007. Over the 10 years, the number of discharges per year for patients with a lower leg amputation increased by approximately 19,500 people. This was due to an increase in the number of patients and the expansion of the designated treatment facilities for lower leg amputation. Regarding the primary diagnosis, there were 42,519 (44.7%) patients with a primary diagnosis of diabetic foot problems in the population that were discharged as lower leg amputees. The average age of the discharged patients showed a downward trend; however, the age distribution showed an upward trend. Approximately two-fifths of the patients belonged to the 20-39 years age group, and the proportion in the 50+ years age group tended to increase. Over the 10 years, there were a total of 175,384 discharges for diabetic foot problems as the primary diagnosis among Korean adults. The number of lower leg amputations among Korean adults has increased in recent years. The findings of this study suggest that the number of lower leg amputations resulting from diabetic foot disease is increasing.Lib Dem leader Vince Cable tells BBC Newsnight
